How to channel your message better with your product development teams
Say it Right…in the Right Place.
This is a special post in a series I’m writing about conscious communication.
Have you ever noticed that certain coworkers respond differently to different communication channels?
Of course you have, you’re a PM at heart.
But, let me ask you, are you actioning on the data you already have at your fingertips?
So many of my clients are brooding in frustration that they have to repeat themselves over and over again.
But … are you really considering the channel and audience when you communicate with your team - from managing up to leadership to managing down to your team?
We put a lot of energy into channel strategy with our customers but why don’t we do it with our coworkers, our most important customers of all?
Today’s conscious communication tip is rooted in just this.
The reality is, different mediums resonate with different people.
Different industries, functions, humans prefer different ways of communicating. Consider the different mediums your teams resonate with most!
Lean into slack with teams that live there.
Save email for leaders that prefer archivable messages.
Experiment with more human tools like audio notes and video.
I love the intonation I can bring to an audio note message. And I love that most platforms transcribe audio notes now so that when I receive one, I can read it if I’m not able to listen.
Try sending a Loom. I use this to send videos to people I’ve just connected with or when I need to explain a document I’ve shared. It helps remind people of the human I am behind the work.

100% agreed- I think part of this involves understanding your audience and meeting them there. I recently ran into this when working with a client who communicated much faster over Slack than a Zoom meeting. Once I figured that out, it was a night and day difference in working with them.
